Skill Developement

Skill training is central part of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims to end poverty and inequality, whilst preserving the planet. Goal 4 of the Agenda is to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. A significant aspect of Goal 4 is the development of technical and vocational education and training. Improving access to these skills is expected to address economic, social and environmental demands, by helping youth and adults develop the skills they need for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.

Case studies

I am married to a man who is an alcoholic. Ever since we got married, he has never given even a single penny that I could spend as per my wish. He also physically abused me and all this while and I never uttered a word. One day, SEED Sakhi came to my house and told me about the stitching center and how I could earn my own money. Initially, I was reluctant but when I saw how my community women are becoming independent after learning from the center, I decided to join too. I have completed the 6-months course and now I am able to earn a fair amount for myself. I also save money by stitching clothes of my whole family.

Laltesh Stitching Phase V.

My parents got me married at a very young age. My husband doesn’t earn well and we struggle to make the ends meet. I had never though about working as in our community women who work outside are often looked down upon. When I heard SEED Sakhi talking to a group of women, I went to see what was happening and came to know about the MSC Skill Development Center . I had always wanted to learn stitching, so I immediately registered for it. But when I went home, my family refused to let me participate until SEED Sakhi visited my house and spoke to my family. I have been getting many orders for sweaters, socks and woollen dresses for children ever since I completed my training. I earn a steady monthly income and am able to support my husband.

Kiran Knitting Phase V

My father is a farmer. I wanted to study but my family couldn’t afford it. I visited the center one day out of curiosity to see how handicrafts products are made. I was always fascinated to see such beautiful things. I decided to enroll for the program then and there. My family also allowed me to take up the course as there was no fee. It gives me a feeling of great pride that I am now able to earn and support my family.

I, Neeraj Sanjay Sharma, and belong to a simple family where my entire family is financially dependent on me. It had been very difficult for us to survive during lockdown as I lost my office Executive job. One day my friend told about the free online banking professional classes jointly run by SEED and ICRA. When I contacted, I came to know that not only it is a free training but also, if completed successfully I will also get help in placement. I enrolled for the course and completed it. It was a very good platform to build my knowledge day by day during the lockdown situation. The training quality was good, and our trainer was very professional and supportive. Now I am a certified Business Correspondent and have got a job with good Salary@ Rs.18000/- Per Month. I am very grateful and thankful to SEED & ICRA team for changing my life.

It is at this time that I came to know about the Banking Course being run by SEED & ICRA. I also noticed that on completion of skill training, they will help in finding a job which motivated me to join this course. I want to thank SEED and ICRA because I got a good job after completing the course and now have a chance at building a bright future and support my family too.
