Yoga Day: Celebrating the union between Mind, Body and Soul

To promote harmony between man and nature and adopt a holistic approach towards health and well-being, we celebrate International Day of Yoga on 21 june, 2015. The roots of Yoga Day can be traced back to Prime Minister Modi’s address to the UN in September 2014, where he said,” Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies the unity of mind and body, thought and action.”

It is commonly believed that the spiritual practice of Yoga has its origins in 6000-year-old India. However, when the Harappan civilization was discovered in the 1920s, the excavators were surprised to find seals on which yoga-like figures were sketched. Thus, Yoga can be more ancient than previously thought by archeologists and Yoga gurus. Most yoga scriptures were written in an ancient form of Sanskrit.

One of the most noteworthy Yogic Scriptures is the Bhagavad-Gita, which Mahatma Gandhi recommended highly by saying,” When disappointment stares me in the face and all alone I see not one ray of light, I go back to the Bhagavad-Gita.

Yoga is not simply an exercise, but a way to become one with yourself, the world and what surrounds us. Yoga leads us toward self-awareness, which in turn enables us to make conscious and better choices. In order to learn Yoga, the practitioners should be able to focus mentally for a long period of time. This inner focusing is similar to meditation and provides several health benefits.

At Seed, we promote the health and well-being of various communities, by emphasizing the importance of keeping fit and active. We spread awareness and educate community members about how to keep in the best of health. To conclude, SEED would like to wish its readers on International Yoga Day by encouraging them to take up yoga as part of their daily health routine. So readers, do practice yoga and derive the maximum benefits from this super-healthy practice! Happy Yoga Day!
